At the heart of it all is the legendary five-cylinder turbo — an engine with history and a character that is truly unmatched in the modern automotive world. ABT Sportsline has brought it to approximately 467 kW (635 HP) using the ABT Power R performance upgrade combined with the IWI System. Top speed is 300 km/h.
IWI stands for Indirect Water/Ethanol Injection — a system that injects upstream of the engine's throttle bodies. It is controlled by an electronic control unit developed exclusively by ABT Sportsline. The IWI technology offers thermodynamic advantages that enable sustained power delivery at the highest performance levels. The injection process achieves a very strong internal cooling effect, allowing more charge air — and therefore more oxygen — to enter the combustion process. The result: consistently higher power output, reliably on demand. Complemented by an ABT turbocharger and an ABT intercooler, the result is a drivetrain without equal in an SUV of this class. The fluid level of the IWI system is monitored via a level sensor and displayed in the myABT app.
The ABT coilover suspension has been specifically tuned to match the vehicle and its performance output, with a particular focus on the demands of the Nordschleife.
Individually adjustable compression and rebound damping allow for precise suspension setup depending on the application and driver preference. The setup is consistently sport-oriented, while still providing everyday comfort. Combined with the ABT sport stabilisers, the coilover suspension reliably transfers the increased engine power to the road.
The overall package is completed by an aerodynamic body kit that gives the Formentor VZ5 635 a distinctive, athletic silhouette. ABT air intake trims at the front, rear apron add-ons, and a striking ABT rear wing in gloss black are precisely tailored to the proportions of the Formentor, coming together to create an appearance that is immediately recognisable as ABT.
Inside, ABT details complete the picture: an ABT start-stop button cover, floor mats with an embroidered VZ5 635 logo, and the air vent trim featuring the individual embossing '1 of 30' make every vehicle a documented one-of-a-kind.
